  • An instant classic, an Oscar-worthy showcase for Jeremy Irons, and a tightrope ballet over dicey screen material… A subtle movie - and thus a disturbing one. Like “Vertigo,” “The Night of the Hunter,” “Repulsion” and a few others, it finds beauty in morbidity - then nags you to come back for a second dose. [23 Sept 1988] show more

  • David Cronenberg's gelid masterpiece. show more

  • It's almost too rich in ideas for its own good: The sense of concentration and proportion isn't there. But it remains an astonishing, magnetic, devastating piece of work. [23 Sept 1988] show more

Well done production with excellent acting. Twins are often very close in identifying with one another. They have psychic level communications with one another greater than do non-twins. They may be reared separately with no contact, but as adults share many tastes, preferences, ideas, and personality traits This movie explores the sometimes inextricably mutual identification of twins to produce a unified, shared personality. When one of the pair becomes drug addicted and therein sinks into a disintegration of his personality, the other follows suit in mutual madness.
