Everyone knows and loves J.M. Barrie's classic story, Peter Pan. This 1991 Steven Spielberg family adventure and comedy film gives everyone a new... rception of the story. In this movie, Robin Williams (\"Mork and Mindy\"), plays Peter Banning, or Peter Pan. Its story answers the question of those ******** Peter Pan and wondered, “What would have happened if Peter had decided not to stay in Neverland?” In this version, Wendy is now the grandmother (played by Maggie Smith ), and she has taken Peter under her wing as her son. Absorbed in his job, he has little time for his wife Moira (Caroline Goodall ) and children Jack and Maggie. When Peter and his wife return home one night, they find the kids to be missing. Only this time it is by the infamous Hook. Peter cannot seem to accept the fictional person he used to be, but he soon figures it out after going back to Neverland to rescue the kids. Tinkerbell, played by Julia Roberts (\"Pretty Woman\") brings Peter back to Neverland. It is not until pretty far into the film that the audience actually gets to meet Hook, played by Dustin Hoffman. He does a great job as the “evil guy” in this movie. Not only does he act as the bad guy, but his character, Hook, gets to act as a good guy in the movie. The plan is to steal Peter's children to get him to come back to Neverland, which proved to be successful. He wants Peter to fight him once and for all. However, he has a hard time being the “old” Peter; he can't even remember how to fly. His chances are slim to none of getting back his children. At this point, the Lost Boys come into play. Their job is to get Peter back into shape so he can take on Hook and rescue his kids. While they are busy training Peter, Hook persuades the kids that he's the nice guy. It really takes a twist on things once Peter sees this. The training proves to be difficult because Peter has lost his imagination. His fear of flying does not come in handy either. In this film however, the Lost Boys are portrayed as crazy and obnoxious, not really making them appeal to the audience. The movie spends too much time showing scenes of the Lost Boys, as well as scenes at the Banning household back in London. Things like that are why this movie just tends to drag on with needless information. The audience ends up watching a movie with a total running time of 2 hours and 22 minutes, when it could be much less. This would be the biggest flaw of the film that could have easily been improved on. This movie turns out to have some very important lessons to them. The first one is *********** always important to stay youthful at heart. Sometimes people need to remember *********** okay to take a break and enjoy the little things. The greatest lesson is how valuable family is. It shouldn't have to take Peter's children being kidnapped to learn the meaning of the word, or to realize he always put them behind his job.
