  • Christopher Plummer steals the show without resorting to camp as Nicholas' wounded and wounding Uncle Ralph. It's a great performance and a reminder of Dickens' grandeur. This Cliff's Notes of a film, though lively fun, only hints at that. show more

  • It's a generous tale, told through big performances by a talented cast, presenting a range of colorful characters that only Dickens could have created. show more

  • This mid-19th century tale of survival after the death of a parent is still compelling today, and its message of strength and the importance of family continues to resonate. show more

My father recently passed away and this movie came on in the middle of the night while I was awake doing some thinking. It seemed as if this story coming on was meant to be. It was refreshing and hopeful in a time where many movies lack real storylines and substance. This movie isn't a shoot em up flick or a mindless fast paced display for the simple minded. This movie had heart and intelligence and it's an example of what can be done when real writers put together a film meant to deliver a true message. I give it the full five stars and say bravo to the whole cast and crew for making such a wonderful and hopeful film in a time where this kind of real artistry and storytelling is sorely lacking. This movie has become an all time favorite of mine. Jeff Pennsylvania
