What pulls us over the rough spots is the mind meld between del Toro the artist and the child inside him. They both want to astonish us. Geeks everywhere, salute. show more

If this is the best we can do in terms of movies - if something like this can speak to the soul of audiences - maybe we should just turn over the cameras and the equipment to the alien dinosaurs and see what they come up with. show more

The story's appeal is lost in all the fights between the monsters and robots. show more

"Could be worse" isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of Pacific Rim, but my head is still ringing, and hurting, from long stretches of this aliens vs. robots extravaganza that are no better than the worst brain-pounders of the genre. show more

Pacific Rim shares much with the Mexican filmmaker's "Hellboy" franchise - jokey and comic book-y, full of muscular tableaus with huge squads of people coming and going (and running for their lives). show more

Laudable as its world-building is, the film drags not just in its interminable middle hour, but also during the redundant monster-on-mechawarrior smackdowns. show more

To kill time between action set-pieces, del Toro has done an above-average job of avoiding tedium via some flavorsome casting, passably interesting plot contrivances and, above all, by maintaining strong forward momentum. Unlike so many similar crash-bang action spectaculars, this one feels lean and muscular rather than bloated or padded; the combat is almost always coherent and dramatically pointed rather than just splashed on the screen for its own sake. show more

Director Guillermo del Toro knows that the charm in the clash of scale - or armor-plated titans isn't necessarily tied to the low budgets and laughable production design of those guilty-pleasure TV shows. And with Pacific Rim, he cracks the code. show more

It is one of the better dumbass sci-fi action movies to come down the pike in quite some time. show more

If I were nine years old, I would see the monsters-versus-robots adventure Pacific Rim 50 times. Because I'm in my forties and have two kids and two jobs, I'll have to be content with seeing it a couple more times in theaters and re-watching it on video. show more

The old B&W films run circles around this piece of garbage. Low I.Q. s can get into this crap.

Was this a movie or live-action Anime? The story line sucks and character development is lacking. Tried to use FX to replace poor acting but failed in both areas. I WANT A REFUND!!!!

Possibly the best movie I have ever seen - and I\'m being completely serious. It is an over-the-top blast of excitement- but that\'s what a movie is for. What really astounded me was the lack of obvious cliches while holding true to the old kaiju movies. If you haven\'t seen this yet - go! Now!

Watchable but they asked a bit to much when they wanted us to believe we would build giant robots to have hand to hand combat instead of just blowing them up.

This movie brings me back to the days of Voltron and Godzilla. Giant robots kicking huge monster butt is always fun to watch. However I cannot give a full 5 stars because I feel it could have been a bit of a better plot. I feel this will be a one hit wonder and will fade away like many movies have.

Lousy story line...terrible acting. CG I effects are excellent. Unless you are a 12 year old teen you will be disappointed.

Good graphical effects, lousy story. I got bored with ********** Transformers in a Godzilla suite. Hard to follow the action, as the camera is all over the place during action scenes. I\'d give it 2 stars. I\'d say wait for it on DVD.

Absolutely loved this movie, might be my favorite of the year. Evrything was just great, from the CGI to the acting and directing. I really liked the storyline on how they figured out how to beat them and the comedy that was involved also. Just a fantastic movie! 1 I will be buying for sure.

Maybe a little better than the average blockbuster filled with over-the-top impossible action. But why build giant robots to battle the giant creatures? I\'d think they could have finished them off quickly with nuclear armed guided missiles and torpedoes. I.e., the whole premise is silly.
