An enjoyable movie not because of any special gifts by the filmmakers or emotional resonance in the script. It was more like destiny. Once someone jotted down the concept on a cocktail napkin and hired B-Boys who could actually dance, the movie pretty much had to turn out OK. show more

It’s undeniable that the good-natured “Afterschool Special” vibe here plays to the film’s corny strengths, and the dancing is impressive. So much so that it’s almost impossible not to cheer during the final round. show more

The young dancers' undeniable skill and athleticism is squandered in this formulaic, overly familiar dance movie. show more

Should satisfy the planet of b-boys and girls to whom it preaches. show more

At the risk of sounding 100, I think it’s regrettable this film had to be shot in digital 3-D. Both those formats actually do a frustrating disservice to the depiction of the action, making them look choppier, more flickery and occasionally blurrier than they would otherwise. show more

The 3-D is a pain, and the excitable editing, slo-mo and speeded-up action frustrate attempts to watch the athleticism on display, but the last half-hour takes it up a notch. show more

The singer and tabloid darling Chris Brown more than holds his own with this crew, apparently not even needing a dance double. show more

Remarkably, the highlight of Benson Lee's film, essentially a fiction reboot of his Planet B-Boy, isn't the scene where Chris Brown gets punched in the face. show more

To put in Clichénese, the only language Battle of the Year knows: the creator's hearts just weren't in this thing. show more

It isn’t good by any stretch of the imagination, but B-movie lovers who like their dance movies flashy, fun, and spectacularly dumb shouldn’t mind. show more

Chris Brown was such a good actor in this movie from the trailers that you see can\'t wait to see it when it comes in theaters in January 2013. Josh Peck was a good actor to but not better than Chris Brown is. Did you see Chris Brown with his shirt off.
