    Peter Hartlaub San Francisco Chronicle

Forgettably mediocre, but it's not atrocious. show more

Despite some high-caliber voice talent and shimmering animation, it's hard to get a bead on this tale. show more

    New York Daily News

Focused mostly on one location, the cartoon is stuffed with exhausting visual mayhem. Some jokes land, but most kids over 10 will roll their eyes. show more

    Michael Rechtshaffen The Hollywood Reporter

The production squeaks by on the visual charm of art director Ian Hastings’ period touches and warm autumnal hues. The voice talent is a decidedly mixed bag. show more

Given the feel-good themes of the average kids' movie — be yourself, follow the golden rule, love each other, blah blah blah — it's refreshing to see an animated comedy chuck that guck and focus on a real jerk. show more

While the animation is quite good and the filmmakers have brought together an excellent group of actors to provide the voice talent, the storyline leaves us with a tale more reminiscent of Saturday morning kids’ programming. show more

Better than any animated film released in the doldrums of January has a right to be. show more

    The Globe and Mail (Toronto)

The Nut Job has a certain lo-fi charm, but it’s hardly a world-beater; with all due respect to Surly, Rocky J. Squirrel’s place in the pantheon would seem to be safe for another 50 years. show more

Left after 25 minutes. Like most movies today, it was about flash and splash with nice looking characters and animated scenes, all at the expense of telling a capitvating story with a hook to keep the audience in their seats.
