Edward Utterson (Louis Hayward), the adopted son of an eminent attorney, is expelled from the Royal Academy of Science for conducting inappropriate experiments. His concerned mentor, psychologist Curtis Lanyon (Alexander Knox), reveals to Edward that his real father is the infamous Dr. Henry Jekyll (also Hayward), whose experiments led to madness and the death of both his parents. Although stunned, Edward decides he must vindicate his father by discovering where his experiments went wrong.
