Plot Summary
When their father passes away, four grown, world-weary siblings return to their childhood home and are requested -- with an admonition -- to stay there together for a week, along with their free-speaking mother (Jane Fonda) and a collection of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. As the brothers and sisters re-examine their shared history and the status of each tattered relationship among those who know and love them best, they reconnect in hysterically funny and emotionally significant ways.

  • This comedy about a death is a funeral for the audience. show more

  • Bateman comes off well, humanizing his character with a strain of melancholy that’s one of the movie’s genuinely touching elements. Fey is all right, though she falls back on her patented shtick. Driver makes the most of his hipsterish role, nicely playing off the other siblings’ tension. show more

  • As a film it feels overly familiar, with some amusing scenes, but not enough to make for a wholly satisfying experience. show more

As I sit here on veterans day I cant help but despise Jane Fonda. I will not see this movie because she is in it. A Vietnam Vet.

This movie was great. I hear it was very close to the book in plot and dialogue, but it was so good that I was glad I had not read the book and could experience the plot as it unfolded. I'm old-fashioned, so I loved Jane Fonda, Tina Fey, and Jason Bateman already. I also appreciated the way loose ends were quietly woven in before the movie ended. It was a lovely vacation from my own life and interesting romp in other lives.
