Joe Neumaier New York Daily News

This sequel to last year’s surprise buzz-maker takes the same appreciative approach to scare-flick tradition: Take hipsters, mix into classic genre riff, goose until ludicrous; repeat. Not every try is successful, but as with any anthology, if you don’t like one, sit back and wait for the next. show more

    Justin Lowe The Hollywood Reporter

The scares are as hit-or-miss as the filmmaking in the second installment of the “VHS” found-footage horror anthology series. show more

S-VHS isn’t as pants-pooping scary as the first, but it is funnier, tighter and slicker. show more

A welcome contrast to the first film's snuff-y atmosphere and general mean-spiritedness, featuring more humor, fewer hateful characters, and occasional twinges of relatable human emotion. show more

The best of them you could certainly see as full length features, chilling little tastes of a complete vision — story, characters, horrific situations and visual aesthetic. The worst? Simply generic. show more

    Sara Stewart New York Post

With the exception of “Tape 49” — the Simon Barrett-directed segment about the PI — the films are ridiculously shaky, their camerawork so determinedly guerrilla-style that it’s difficult not to look away, sometimes at crucial moments. Found footage is all well and good, but if it’s unwatchable, it might as well have stayed lost. show more

Like so many horror films in recent years, V/H/S/2 appears more lightweight the more it tries to impress with its inventiveness and grotesquerie. show more

    Rex Reed New York Observer

V/H/S/2 is a diabolically psychotic, sub-mental and completely unwatchable disaster that I happily deserted when a man with a retinal implant scooped out his bionic eye with a sharp object, splattering blood all over the camera. Your move, and you’re welcome to it. show more

    Total Film

Slicker than the original without the sudden lurches in quality, this second shaky-cam horror anthology still has a standout sequence by which all the others must be judged. show more

    Peter Bradshaw The Guardian

There are some dull stretches here, but also some grisly instant hits: nasty, deplorable, vulgar and sometimes brilliant. show more
