A tragic accident on the set of "The Walking Dead" has led to a serious injury and a temporary shutdown of production.

The show was shooting on Wednesday when stuntman John Bernecker suffered a serious head injury after falling more than 20 feet onto concrete, THR reports. He was quickly transported to a trauma center, where he is in intensive care.

"We are saddened to report that John Bernecker, a talented stuntman for 'The Walking Dead' and numerous other television shows and films, suffered serious injuries from a tragic accident on set," an AMC spokesperson said in a statement. "He was immediately transported to an Atlanta hospital and we have temporarily shut down production. We are keeping John and his family in our thoughts and prayers."

How Bernecker is faring is still unknown, but it doesn't look good. His girlfriend, Jennifer Cocker, posted on Facebook, and it sounds like his injury is horrific:

John deserves to be seen by every neorusurgeon [sic] and doctor there is until one of them sees the life we all know he has in him and bring him back to us... THIS ISNT [sic] FAIR

Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie on "The Walking Dead," also spoke out, urging fans to keep Bernecker and his family in their prayers.

It is unclear how long "Walking Dead" production will remain halted, but at this point, the bigger concern should be Bernecker's health. Here's hoping for a full recovery.
