Most "Game of Thrones" fans know by now that the white-blonde hair sported by Daenerys Targaryen on the HBO fantasy series is actually a wig, since star Emilia Clarke is a natural brunette in real life. But for the upcoming eighth and final season of the show, Clarke is ditching the fake follicles and reaching for the bleach instead.

In a post on Instagram, the actress revealed that she recently did something a little drastic to her 'do: She chopped it off, and dyed it blonde. And yes, it was intentionally done for "Thrones."

"Mother of dragons meet Emilia. Emilia meet mother of dragons," Clarke captioned her post, using her character's nickname.

The actress also gave a shout-out to "Thrones" hairdressers Kev Alexander and Candice Banks, who crafted the Khaleesi's iconic (fake) locks over the past seven seasons, and who helped her with her new haircut. Clarke's hashtags -- which she always uses to hilarious effect -- also make it clear that she's about to start shooting season eight of the series. "Coming home never felt so good," she wrote in one.

"Thrones" fans probably feel the same way. We'll be eagerly keeping our eye on Clarke's Instagram account for more behind the scenes peeks as season eight continues production.

"Game of Thrones" is currently slated to return for its curtain call on HBO sometime next year.
