Like Winston Duke before her, Janelle Monae is having a very good work week: The singer-turned-actress was just cast in two high-profile projects, including a prestigious biopic about an American hero.

First up is "Harriet," the upcoming film about Harriet Tubman, one of the conductors on the Underground Railroad. Variety reports that Monae ("Moonlight," "Hidden Figures") has joined the starry ensemble, which features Tony winner Cynthia Erivo (who'll next be seen on the big screen in "Bad Times at the El Royale") as the famed abolitionist.

It's unclear who Monae will be playing, but her costars include another Tony winner, Leslie Odom Jr., as well as Joe Alwyn, Jennifer Nettles, Clarke Peters, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Zackary Momoh, Deborah Ayorinde, and Vondie Curtis-Hall. The film is set to start shooting this month in Virginia.

Monae's next project couldn't be more different: Animated family flick  "UglyDolls," based on the popular toys. In addition to voicing a character (yet to be determined), Variety says that Monae will also provide music for the flick.

Other actors lending their voices -- and likely some tunes, too -- to "UglyDolls" include Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Pitbull, and Blake Shelton. The flick is due in theaters on May 10, 2019.

We're already looking forward to seeing (and hearing) much more from Monae soon.
