From starring on CW series "Jane the Virgin" to playing a butt-kicking action heroine, it seems like Gina Rodriguez truly can do it all.

The Golden Globe-winning actress is continuing her streak of eclectic box office offerings with "Miss Bala," a new thriller that pits her character against a crime boss. But while this matchup may seem unlikely on the surface, Rodriguez proves that she's more than up for the challenge.

In the first trailer for the flick, we meet Gloria (Rodriguez), who's taking a trip to Mexico with her best friend (Cristina Rodlo) after the recent death of her parents. But while she's out at a club, she witnesses a murder, and becomes entangled with a group of criminals, who force her to do their bidding -- and also kidnap her friend as collateral.

It's a lot for one person to handle, and it's compounded by the fact that she's soon approached by law enforcement to become a mole. Now, Gloria has to figure out not only how to save her friend -- the only person she considers family -- but herself as well.

As Rodriguez explained in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the flick attempts to paint Gloria as a fully-rounded person, not just Miss Bullet (the English translation of the film's title).

“It’s a very realistic protecting of herself,” the actress explained to EW. “She uses her smarts, she uses her savvy. She uses many tools, and I feel like that is so what women do. We have so many different tools. We use it all — the illogical and the logical, the emotional and the rational. And it’s really incredible that we are capable of that.”

Audiences can catch the incredible "Miss Bala" in theaters on February 1, 2019.
