The Doctor is back.

Fans don't have to wait till the 2020 premiere of "Doctor Who" Season 12 on BBC America to see the Doctor and her companions. The foursome -- Jodie Whittaker, Mandip Gill, Tosin Cole, and Bradley Walsh -- are back on set, so the show's official Twitter account recently posted a photo. The image shows the series' stars and announces that the show is "back in production!"

The show's most recent new episode was the New Year's Day special, "Resolution." Traditionally, "Doctor Who" has aired Christmas specials, so it was a departure from tradition. The season proceeding it also brought a big change, namely in the form of the first female Doctor. Whittaker took over the role from Peter Capaldi, and she is returning for Season 12.

"We're delighted that the Doctor and her friends will be returning to thrill audiences in 2020," said Charlotte Moore, BBC director of content, when the show's renewal was announced. "I know Chris [Chibnall] and the whole team are already working on a whole new set of exciting adventures."

"Doctor Who" Season 12 premieres in early 2020.
