A new animated series from the mind that brought TV audiences "Samurai Jack" and "Dexter's Laboratory" is headed to Adult Swim, with the Cartoon Network programming block revealing that it has ordered the latest project created by Genndy Tartakovsky.

Deadline has the scoop on "Primal," a half-hour series set to debut in the fall:

'Primal' features a caveman at the dawn of evolution. A dinosaur on the brink of extinction. Bonded by tragedy, this unlikely friendship becomes the only hope of survival in a violent, primordial world.

It's an intriguing concept, and the key art (above) is certainly striking, a hallmark of Tartakovsky's creative output. In addition to his Emmy-winning work on "Samurai Jack" (which aired its first four seasons on Cartoon Network" before switching over to Adult Swim for its fifth and final outing in 2017) and "Dexter's Laboratory," he also directed the original "Star Wars: Clone Wars" series.

Tartakovsky is also a successful filmmaker, having written all three of the hit "Hotel Transylvania" films. He also directed the most recent third outing of the series, 2018's "Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation."

An exact premiere date and voice talent for "Primal" is pending. Stay tuned.
