"Quiet, composed, graceful, disciplined." Those words are used to describe the titular heroine "Mulan" in Disney's upcoming live-action remake of the beloved 1998 animated film.

They're meant to outline the qualities of a good wife, but they also define the qualities of a great warrior. And this new teaser trailer shows just how badass of a warrior Mulan (Liu Yifei) becomes, when the fearless young woman masquerades as a man to take her ailing father's place in the Imperial Army.

While the broad outline of the movie remains the same as the animated original, the tone is completely different. There's no indication in the trailer of any musical numbers or the talking dragon Mushu. Instead, the trailer conveys a more action-oriented, elegant tale that honors its setting and history.

The film comes from director Niki Caro ("Whale Rider") and features an all-Asian cast, including Donnie Yen as Commander Tung; Rosalind Chao as Mulans mother; Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan; Yoson An as Cheng Honghui; with Gong Li as Xianniang and Jet Li as the Emperor.

"Mulan" opens in theaters March 27, 2020.
