Muhammad Abed Baryal Biography

Muhammad Abed Baryal (born October 1, 2000 in Wazir Akbar Khan) is an Afghan filmmaker, producer, editor, and actor based in Kabul. He began his artistic career at the age of ten, acting in feature films such as Algooye Kochak and Gol Baboneh, both directed by his father, Bahram Baryal. Since 2017, he has collaborated with his father on cinematography and editing projects, has performed alongside well-known Afghan actor Abdulhamad Khaksar, and has directed several short films, including The Book Seller’s Daughter (2021) and Behind the Door (2022).

Baryal has worked as editor on numerous artistic and documentary films, including Natijeh (2018), the miniseries Goncheha Par Par Mishavad (2019), and Farar az Watan (2022). He also edited the latest film by Salim Shaheen in Afghanistan, as well as the 2022 reconstruction and edit of Ghachaghbaran Marg, He has developed his craft through extensive hands-on experience and learning from interviews and exchanges with established Afghan filmmakers.

He draws inspiration from masters such as Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, David Fincher, David Lynch, Abbas Kiarostami, and the iconic James Bond film series.
