Plot Summary

To beat the summertime heat, booksellers Joel (Franchot Tone) and Garda Sloane (Ann Sothern) go for a vacation in a breezy coastal city. Joel's friend Mike Stevens (Lee Bowman) is holding a beauty pageant there, and Joel, much to his wife's chagrin, is set to judge the attractive contestants. But a dispute with local mobsters over kickbacks leads to murder, with Mike in jail for the crime. And so it's back to work for Joel and Garda, as the sometime sleuths try to solve the mystery.
