George Miller made a huge impact on action cinema in 2015 when he revisited the world of ‘Mad Max’ for the diesel-guzzling, fire-spewing ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’.
It blasted itself into our eyeballs with such sights as Tom Hardy playing the latest incarnation of gruff anti-hero Max, Charlize Theron matching him for toughness as the one-armed Furiosa and Nicholas Hoult as the silver-sprayed obsessive speed demon Nux.
Miller has said he wanted to explore more about Furiosa, and back in 2022, he started the cameras rolling on a prequel.
Anya Taylor-Joy inherits the role, playing a younger Furiosa, and from the looks of the first trailer, she is every inch as badass as Theron. Then add in the idea of Chris Hemsworth as a maniacal baddie and you have the makings of one of the most anticipated movies of 2024.

To give it its full title, ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ has the following synopsis: as the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus (Hemsworth).
Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.

The ‘Furiosa’ cast also includes Tom Burke, Nathan Jones, Angus Sampson and Quaden Bayles.
Miller wrote the movie with regular collaborator Nick Lathouris.

Miller initially explored the idea of digitally de-aging Theron for the prequel story but switched to casting Taylor-Joy when that didn’t work out.
Here’s his comment on that to the New York Times in 2020:
“For the longest time, I thought we could just use CG de-aging on Charlize, but I don’t think we’re nearly there yet. Despite the valiant attempts on ‘The Irishman’, I think there’s still an uncanny valley.”

Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth were present at the footage’s launch at the CCXP fan convention in São Paulo, Brazil on Thursday, and Hemsworth described Dementus:
“He’s a very violent, insane, brutal person that is born from the Wasteland. He’s a product of his environment, and there's an intensity to him there’s a brutality. He has been birthed into a space where it’s kill or be killed, and he’s learned to rule with an iron fist. There’s a charisma to him, and it’s a manipulative charisma.”
