TV Host & Chef Anthony Bourdain Has Died of Apparent Suicide at Age 61

Anthony Bourdain has embarked on the final adventure. CNN confirmed that the host of their show "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown" had died Friday, June 8 in France while working on an upcoming episode of the show.

Friend and fellow chef Eric Ripert found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room. Bourdain was 61, and CNN said the cause of death was suicide.

The network issued a statement:

"It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain. His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time."

Bourdain started as an author, with "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly" leading to his Food Network show "A Cook's Tour." He moved on to Travel Channel's "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations" and "The Layover," then started hosting "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown" in 2013.
