Long-awaited sequels to early 2000s comedies have been springing upleft and right lately. So why not "White Chicks," too?

That was apparently the thinking behind Marlon Wayans's recent Instagram post, where he made a mock-up of a potential poster for "White Chicks 2," and asked fans if they were interested in a sequel to the 2004 comedy. The comedian said that if the photo got 300,000 likes, he'd consider making the follow-up his next project.

Show of hands who wants to see the sequel to this? 300,000 likes and I may make this our next movie

It turns out that "White Chicks" fans are pretty passionate about the film, and soon, the Instagram post amassed over 400,000 likes (and an additional 700,000 -- and counting -- on Facebook), proving that, apparently, demand is indeed high for another round. But just how likely is it that this film will get made?

According to HuffPost Entertainment, there have been plenty of starts and stops to a potential sequel over the years, with the closest call coming way back in 2009. And just last year, Wayans said that a dip in international interest in comedies has given studios pause when it comes to greenlighting such fare, especially since the original flick came out more than 10 years ago.

We'll have to wait and see if Wayans was serious about actually making "White Chicks 2" a reality (HuffPost reached out to Wayans and his brothers for comment). Stay tuned -- and keep your Vanessa Carlton sing-a-long ready -- until then.
