Angels & Demons is a serious slog. Still, it's an odd kind of a slog that manages to keep you partially engaged, even at its most esoteric or absurd. show more

A far sight nimbler than its plodding predecessor, where the Holy Grail turns out to be a Holy Girl. The sequel is a little like CSI: Vatican City. show more

Despite the overlong running time, the action moves smoothly and swiftly. show more

Plucking the same violent, occult strings as "Da Vinci" while avoiding its leadenness, Angels keeps the action coming for the best part of 139 minutes. show more

Presumably in response to criticism that "The Da Vinci Code" was static and talky, director Ron Howard has made Angels & Demons frantic -- and, well, talky. show more

This kind of film requires us to be very forgiving, and if we are, it promises to entertain. Angels & Demons succeeds. show more

The movie left out so many pertinent parts of the book. The movie was entertaining, but certainly nowhere near as exciting as the book.

Tom Hanks is a box office guarantee to deliver a professional performance that is smart and believable. “Angels and Demons”, presented something of a non sequitur, however. In “The DaVinci Code”, Professor Robert Langdon was raised as a Catholic and, indeed, had a terrible trial as a small child with his near-drowning in a well. He tells Sofie, “I prayed to Jesus…” Something a non-believer would never do. What has transpired to make Professor Langdon an agnostic (at best) or outright atheist? As always, Ron Howard and Brian Glazer produce an exquisitely beautiful movie that is full of fabulous scenery and special effects that literally take the breath away. Joshua Bell’s cello performance of the main theme gave me delicious shivers. This outstanding music, written by musical genius, Hans Zimmer, was first introduced in “The DaVinci Code” and is one of my favorite film scores of all time. The natural progression was to elaborate on the score and use it again in “Angels and Demons”. Bravo maestro! Armin Mueller-Stahl is 100% in control of his position in the story. First-rate work, as always, from this gifted actor. Ewan McGregor and Ayelet Zurer had the best of the best to work with. Their respective performances kept the
