It would be no country for movie lovers without the Coens. They still manage to run unmuzzled while the rest of Hollywood runs scared. show more

    Walter Addiego San Francisco Chronicle

Doesn't add up to much, but it's fast and funny and lets a bunch of top-drawer actors exercise their comic muscles. show more

    Claudia Puig USA Today

It's consistently funny -- with witty dialogue and offbeat banter that stays in your head for days. show more

    Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal

It's a cheerful trifle tossed off by the Coen brothers in their self-enchanted mode, an approach to comedy that shrugs off comedy's cardinal rule -- Don't Act Funny. show more

    Steven Rea Philadelphia Inquirer

A goofy screwball romp that affords a gaggle of A-listers the chance to hambone around in antic style. show more

Joe Neumaier New York Daily News

Hopped up like a Bugs Bunny cartoon on mescaline and as chatty and uppity as a 5-year-old, Burn After Reading could be seen as the Coen brothers' need to let loose after the tightly wound "No Country for Old Men." show more

    Kirk Honeycutt The Hollywood Reporter

Joel and Ethan Coen clearly are in a prankish mood, knocking out a minor piece of silliness with all the trappings of an A-list studio movie. show more

    Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times

The characters are zany, the plot coils upon itself with dizzy zeal, and the roles seem like a perfect fit for the actors -- yes, even Brad Pitt, as Chad, a gum-chewing, fuzzy-headed physical fitness instructor. I've always thought of him as a fine actor, but here he reveals a dimension that, shall I say, we haven't seen before. show more

    Rene Rodriguez Miami Herald

Everyone in the movie is a buffoon or a dolt. No one is redeemable. The humor comes at the expense of the characters: You're always laughing at them, never with them. The Coens have never seemed this disdainful, this mocking, of their fellow man. show more

    Maitland McDonagh TV Guide

The brothers' dark, all-star farce about sex, lies and surveillance is pretty damned funny. show more

Spoiler: The gratuitous sexual scenes ruined this quirky little movie. Completely. I think it honestly would have been cute if not for that because we did wonder... where was all this leading. And the ending was... interesting. Who would have thought lipo was important enough to commit espionage? It makes sense as an American movie with American characters I guess.

George and Brad, why did you accept to do this movie. I can't believe that have 6 nominations, everything about the movie is bad. The funny parts were not funny at all, and the script could be better wrote by a 10 years boy. Both of you, you are professionals, good actors, don't sale yourself for this kind of non-sense roles, that minimize your own potential. Every single person that saw the movie, really hate it. Sincerely and with much respect for both of you.

People say i am surprised how such actors were in such a bad movie well dont you think they let them read the script before they decide to be in the movie or make them do the movie at gunpoint? I feel very sad for people that said the movie was not funny and waste of time. The movie was plain and simple hilarious, Pitt is such a a silly meathead that i was crying, Malkovich was funnier then ever and acted better then ever and Clooney was brilliant.with his obsessed and paranoid character. The movie is very unusual maybe thats why alot of people didnt like it.It shows plain and simple how stupidity exists in normal and everyday adults and in some parts of our society that are considered to be the most sophisticated.

what an absolute waste of time and money. these were talented and respected actors completely stupifying an entire nation of fans with this crap. this movie got such great reviews so what does that say about these movie critics? they should be bagging groceries or working at a carwash, not hyping up garbage movies because of the star studded cast. shame on you critics and reviewers.

Pathetic!! I'm surprised that Brad Pitt and George Clooney would even consider doing such a ridiculous movie. John Malcovich too. Absolutely stupid. I'm glad I didn't pay to see it at the theatre.

Should be called Burn Before Watching. Pitt and Clooney should be ashamed to charge people money to see this.

decent movie with a decent plot, if you can keep up with the amount of twists in it which all seem to be affairs. The only thing that really saved it from it's monotone dribble was brad pitt's braindead character. Other than that, maybe ill watch it again...if the only other thing on is waterworld.
