I am pleased to discover that John Turturro is as good a director as he is an actor. Although initially I hesitated to even see this movie, based on it's low score on Rotten Tomatoes.com, I soon realized that the score was the result of some very mixed reviews, many of which were quite enthusiastic. I'm glad I chanced it.
Unlike many Hollywood movies that go so far overboard in their efforts to be sexy, that they actually turn most women off, Fading Gigolo gets it just right. John Turturro (the director and the actor) clearly understands a sexually experienced woman's need to feel her desire increasing in slow, delicious increments. In this sense Fading Gigolo is quite exquisite.
The acting is good, all the way around, and the story unfolds in a clever yet unpretentious manner, often providing insight at unexpected moments. Hollywood can keep it's overly eager male jocks that rush toward a woman like puppies clamoring for a milk bowl! I'll take the subtlety and finesse of Turturro any day. -- Anya Luz Lobos, author
