Sheridan, so good in "Mud" with Matthew McConaughey, excels here as a vulnerable sapling. show more
A beautiful film, shot by Tim Orr, that is elevated by Mr. Cage's stirring portrait of a violence-prone man who can't restrain himself from doing good. show more
This world feels studied in its "authenticity": the rusted GMC pickup, the tumbledown shack, the boozy brothel, and angry Joe Ransom guttin' deer and tending to his own gunshot wounds with a grimace and a bottle of alcohol. show more
Good movie with an unorthodox plot. For me, Joe was a very conflicted character, and I'm not sure the actor or director knew just where to take him. It is emotionally arduous and often violet. However, it is one of Cage's best performances. Where did they find some of the unsavory cast??????
it's so hard to consider this a masterpiece of a man at war with himself, since there were clearly easier solutions. I just saw it as man with a death wish, not at war with himself. And mind u Joe's violent episodes were provoked. Thus his violent nature not really so much. Wait for video.
