Between a diabolically funny start and a surprise climax, Scream 4 offers nothing more than a series of gory deaths that grow tiresome with repetition. The rating is a hard R, but Craven and Williamson keep it soft at its core. "Scream 1" is still the only keeper. show more

A strange concoction, clever and self-knowing in the extreme and yet operating in primal ways that bypass wit. Something about it feels very modern. show more

It's hard to sustain that cheeky meta humor, and the film seems to just give in and join its slasher brethren, devolving into a string of gruesome, but unoriginal, slayings. show more

For genre geeks, this can be fun - although nothing in Scream 4 is quite as clever as the filmmakers seem to think it is. show more

After a promising start that uses Anna Paquin and Kristen Bell to perfection, they settle into their old stomping grounds as if they'd never left - and that turns out to be a letdown. show more

The generational mix of actors works well enough, although Campbell too often seems stranded with little to do until the climax. show more

It would have a very good shot at being entertaining were it not so outwardly concerned with being important. show more

The film isn't as concerned with terrifying you as it is with showing you a good time, culminating with an over-the-top climax that is simultaneously utterly ridiculous and enjoyable. show more

Don't be late to this homecoming of director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson's horror series, which begins with a twisty opening sequence that's bloody fun. show more

It's fun to see that charming underreactor Neve Campbell, looking about 20 minutes older, back as Sidney Prescott. show more

Bad! Meaning not good. Shoulda\' let it be with Scream 1. But movies are a business to make money (more power to \'em!), the the endless sequel. Case in point \"Pirates of the Caribbean 30: Revenge of Jack\'s Liver\"

Horrible Horrible movie, thought about leaving during the movie several times and I really wish I had. They make a point at the start of the movie that just killing people with no character development is a poor idea because you never end up caring about if they die. Than they go and do the exact same thing. It is impossible to care for these characters they are just to stupid. The 2 (just 2 police) they assign to protect people from the killer leave their post. The characters all leave the windows to their rooms open, even after the third day of killings, one even leaves their front door unlocked even though they know they are being targeted. Than after a discussion about the fact that if they go to an abandon area for a party they know that the killer will attack they all decide to go to an abandoned area for a party. The police never call for federal support which they can do for a serial killer, so 4 just 4 police officers are trying to stop the killer. The characters are stupid to the point that it is no way believable even with the suspension of disbelief needed for movies. They fact that these characters are like that ruins the movie as you can also never feel for characters with plots so stupid as to mine as well not have them.

I\'ve seen all the scream movies. they should have stopped at 3. This one was predictable and only had a few thrills. It\'s getting very redundant. The script could have been better. wait for video. - J.I.
