Disney is ready to debut its first-ever Latina princess on the new animated series "Elena of Avalor," which now has its first trailer and an official release date.

After first being announced back in January 2015, "Elena" will finally hit the airwaves later this month, with a premiere date set for July 22 on the Disney Channel. The historic series -- which exists in the same universe as Disney Junior hit "Sophia the First" -- features the voice of Aimee Carrero ("Young & Hungry") as the titular star. The trailer introduces viewers to the free-spirited Elena, a 16-year-old princess who is set to become queen of her kingdom, Avalor, after saving the realm from an evil sorceress. As she transitions into her new role as ruler, she seeks guidance from her family (including her grandparents and younger sister), royal adviser, friends, and a group of magical flying creatures known as jacquins (what would a Disney show be without some talking animal sidekicks, after all?).

Of course, leading a kingdom doesn't mean Elena stops having adventures -- or kicking butt. As the trailer proves, this princess isn't afraid to storm a pirate ship, engage in sword fights, and fly off aboard a jacquin. Sounds like the perfect princess for a new generation of Disney fans.

"Elena of Avalor" also features the voices of Jenna Ortega, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Chris Parnell. It debuts on the Disney Channel on Friday, July 22 at 7 p.m.
