Claudia Castello Biography

Claudia Castello is a Brazilian-American film editor known for her work on acclaimed films such as Creed (2015), Fruitvale Station (2013), and Prey (2022). Born in Copacabana, Brazil, she began her career as a professional bodyboarder before transitioning into filmmaking. After completing her undergraduate studies in journalism in 2002, Castello moved to the United States to learn English.

During this time, she took community college courses in broadcast and film, which sparked her interest in editing. She started her editing career by assisting at a boutique commercial production company in Venice, California, where she learned Final Cut Pro and began editing short films. Castello earned a Master of Fine Arts in Film Production from the University of Southern California in 2011.

Her early work included editing documentaries, which eventually led to her collaboration with director Ryan Coogler. She served as an editor on Coogler's Fruitvale Station (2013) and Creed (2015). Her editing work on Creed earned her a nomination for the Indiewire Critics' Poll Award for Best Editing in 2015, where the film placed eighth. She also won the Jury Award for Best Editing at the 2020 Holidays 365 International Film Festival for her work on Abe (2019).

Additionally, she was nominated for the Eddie Award for Best Edited Feature Film – Non-Theatrical at the 2023 American Cinema Editors awards and for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Picture Editing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie in 2023, both for Prey, sharing these nominations with Angela M. Catanzaro.
