Julie Groll is a visual effects producer at Sony Pictures Imageworks, based in Los Angeles. With an academic background that includes a B.S. in biomedical engineering and art theory & practice from Northwestern University and a certificate from the Gnomon School of Visual Effects, she entered the VFX industry after discovering her passion during a Disney World internship.

In her early career, Groll worked at Threshold Digital, contributing to a range of visual experiences—from themed attractions like “Glory of Creation” for the Crystal Cathedral and Seaworld’s “Fountain and Fireworks” in Orlando, to major film projects such as Spider‑Man 2, and multimedia Disney attractions including Star Trek: The Experience: Borg Invasion 4D, Space Mountain, and Mission: Space.

She then served as an associate production manager on Beowulf before moving on to roles as digital production manager at Sony Pictures Imageworks, where she supported high‑profile films like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Oz the Great and Powerful, Alice Through the Looking Glass—spending months on location in London—Edge of Tomorrow, and The Smurfs.

As a VFX producer, Groll has overseen work on a broad spectrum of major releases, including The Emoji Movie, Storks, Spider‑Man: Far from Home, and Lucky 13, as well as contributing to Netflix’s animated anthology Love, Death & Robots, and most recently Red One (2024).
