Dave Bautista: If Jared Leto's Joker Can Get a Solo Movie, What About Drax?
What about a Drax movie? We'll do you one better -- WHY about a Drax movie?
News came out yesterday that Jared Leto's Joker was getting his own standalone movie in the WB/DC Universe, after his small showcase in "Suicide Squad."
Well!
If that can happen, Dave Bautista joked, then Marvel must be super ready to give Drax his own standalone movie in the MCU, after the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films and "Avengers: Infinity War."
He was just kidding, but ... honestly? Why the heck not! It could be two solid hours of Drax being "invisible" and we'd still watch it opening weekend.
Here's Bautista replying to a comment on the Jared Leto news, then getting backup from "Guardians" writer/director James Gunn:
This is what we call a bad idea. https://t.co/1p8wtv4adY

But on the bright side! Which I usually try to look at... if this can happen then the chances of me getting a Drax movie have got to be astronomically high! Like so high that I'm going to stop tweeting and sit by the phone and wait for @MarvelStudios to call! ....any second now! https://t.co/hOt1I2OJxJ

Just tried calling.

Last month, James Gunn tweeted support for Drax to get his own movie:
I think a Drax movie could be incredible. https://t.co/4mlA3NCjxu

And just a few hours before the new Joker/Drax exchange, James Gunn replied to a video clip of Bautista talking about how long Drax can stay invisible:
"Drax could stay invisible as long as @JamesGunn wanted him to stay invisible." ???? pic.twitter.com/Y8t1AjLMx1

Dave Bautista improvised his best line in "Infinity War," so if he got his own standalone movie, they could just let him riff off whoever is around him -- hopefully Mantis, Rocket, Groot, maybe Star-Lord, and that "handsome, muscular man" Thor. That's *if* any or all of them manage to still be around after "Avengers 4." We know it'll be a game-changer, and it opens next May.
Bautista did confirm to EW that he'll be part of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," which films next year. He also said he'd totally be up for a Drax solo movie, but he's not sure if that's in Marvel's plans.
