Touches the heart.
I loved this movie it is very heart warming. The acting is outstanding. A must see.
This movie is quite good. It is well acted. It is designed to tug at your heartstrings and evoke sympathy for immigrants. It presents a very... etic character and paints a picture of injustice to the Hispanic father -- the acting, agin is quite briiliant. However, in its effort to invoke sympathy for the cause, it glosses over a bunch of facts-- Why was the immigrant denied a work visa or other legal access to the USA? The only explaination offered is that he was somehow swindled by a \"greedy lawyer\" who never got him the necessary legal permission for him to remain in America. His sister seems to have been able to become a legimate USA citizen. No explanation as to why she was legal and her brother was not. Mention is also made of the boys / mother father's ex -wife, but not enough to show he was unfairly denied citizenship or the right to stay in the USA. The film only scratches the surface of a larger problem. Why is the he subject to dire poverty in his native Mexico? Why is his son allowed to attend public school despite his father's illegal staus? Surely America is not all bad-- the film states this implicitly- but not expressly. Nonetheless the film is a worthwhile attempt to look at a \"slice of life\" in a larger political problem. It shows that a person beset by poverty and other *************, can fight on . It shows the love of family and the opportunities available in America. Full Review
