  • Every move Hoffman makes subtly rivets attention. There's the uncanny German accent, the boozing, the chain-smoking, the glances at his assistant (Nina Hoss), the secret life he keeps hidden and the betrayals even Günther can't see coming. Hoffman is simply magnificent. Face it. We won't see his like again. show more

  • Now, thanks to A Most Wanted Man, we discover that it's really boring - practically sleep-inducing - to be an international spy. show more

  • While the tension is sometimes muted, this is more than a procedural round of spy games. The deliberately paced but riveting film is made all the better because of Hoffman's breathtakingly nuanced portrayal. show more

I saw this movie the other day, even after reading all the negative reviews posted here. Mainly because I think Philip Seymour Hoffman was a brilliant actor, and this was his last role. It's not a movie for everyone. No rapid paced action, no outlandish CG effects, none of that. What you do get is a methodical, suspense filled (although slow at times!) film which held my attention for a couple of hours. Is it worth it? Yes, if only to see PSH's final work. I would give it a 7/10.

This was about 2 hours of torture. Lots of pictures of Phillip Seymour Hoffman's now herion-addicted and unkempt body. I was horribly bored and had no character development or emotional connection. The only reason I think this has any rating at all, is like the emperor's new clothes, no one wants to admit this is terrible because its PSH. Just give it up already, the movie was awful.

This film is a propaganda piece through and through. The opening text is a lie and the entire premise is based on falsehood. Hoffman's touted German accent is laced with American gestures and body language. It is sad that Hoffman's final film is disinformation and deception. I walked out disgusted during the first ten minutes. Rest in peace, Phil - I wish you're previous film were the last I spent $10 on instead of this one.
