In fact, Bell the writer, director, producer and actress knows how to set a savvy trap. While we're laughing, she pulls the rug out, making us see Carol's world as a microcosm for the world every working woman lives in. That she does it with subtlety, humor and touching gravity marks Bell as a filmmaker to watch. show more

For starters, it's a movie to make you happy to see the next movie written, directed and starring Lake Bell. She has an engaging presence and has a distinct comic sensibility. show more

A clever, likable comedy that sends up sexism, satirizes Hollywood, examines family ties and features a surprisingly tender romance at its core. show more

The deliriously talented Lake Bell wrote, produced, directed and stars in this peculiar bit of comedy magic, set amid the cutthroat world of Hollywood voiceover artists. show more

It’s hard to imagine the lives behind the voices that are part of the movies. But In a World ..., the debut feature from actress-turned-writer-director Lake Bell, not only gives the people who do movie voice-overs a closeup, it savvily and wittily uses what we hear as a metaphor for what we are. show more

Before this movie, Lake Bell seemed to have a nice and comfortable career path ahead of her. She was an actress who always provided a spark, whether the vehicle was mundane or first-rate. Now, she’s a name that provokes keen anticipation. Can’t wait to see what Lake Bell the filmmaker does next. show more

Definitely the funniest comedy I\'ve seen this year, and the best rom/com that I\'ve seen in I can\'t remember how long. I especially love the sendup of the obnoxious contemporary trend of young women \'uptalking\' (raising the pitch at the end of every sentence so that a statement sounds like a question). And the central romance is the sweetest, most awkward onscreen courtship since Annie Hall and Alvy Singer.

I thought this was a terrific movie. Uniquely amusing, maybe not LOL but totally chuckle, chortle, think, chuckle. Love Lake Bell. Gotta see this sleeper

An important film about women and by a talented woman. Wonderful, laugh out loud funny comedy that has heart, sass, and actual fleshed out portrayals of more than just the leading star. An unusually accomplished tyro debut. One of only three films released this spring/summer by a woman. See it!!!

I agree with the critics. It's entertaining due to the quirky situations that the lead gets herself into. A female Woody Allen type situations almost. Nice tribute to Don LaFontaine for those that didn't know the man behind the voice. You will find a new found appreciation of a voice talent.

Slow and so over-rated! Not the kind of movie adults would really enjoy. Clearly the critics saw something we did not! Again... SLOW! They call it a comedy and yet it was not really funny. Save your money.
