  • Joe Wright's origin story of Peter and the lost boys has to be the dimmest, deadliest take ever on J.M. Barrie's Pan myth. show more

  • Deftly made and diverting for young audiences but unlikely to linger, with any vibrancy tempered by the familiarity of the tune. show more

  • What fun there is falls to Jackman, who gives the grand old man of pirate characters plenty of fresh and unusual wrinkles and emerges better than the others simply by virtue of playing a two-dimensional, rather than one-dimensional, figure. show more

Many people will walk into this movie thinking it is a Disney remake of "Peter Pan". This is not the original Peter Pan. PAN is about how Peter is given up as a baby by his mother to protect him. He lives in a horrible boys orphanage, with only 1 friend.he is kidnapped in the middle of the night by a strange flying Pirate ship run by , Blackbeard.(Hugh Jackman) and taken to Neverland, a magical island where Peter learns who he is and what is his destiny .This movie explains how and why Peter began . There is very little of the story J.M. Barrie wrote , but instead Jason Fuchs adds to Barrie's tale giving it a beginning to the beloved hero Peter Pan. I personally loved this movie, when ever a movie cares to explain, adds fair dust with a lot of running and jumping and near misses, YES you can count me in! Garrett Hedland is a surprising choice for the young dashing shyster Hook who has a eye for the the Princess Tiger Lilly, yet selfishly can not stop worrying about himself. Let me just say, if your in it for the movie magic, there is some, lots of lights and mystical fairies and strange birds and Mermaids and giant alligators ~ but this is a story first .

I found very little to recommend this movie. It was dark, ugly, overdone and poorly acted for the most part. The actor who played Peter did a masterful job. Everyone else was an embarrassment. The story line was so tortured and such a reach, all I could think was, "Why does Hollywood insist on messing with the classics--they should leave well enough alone." The movie veered from one dumb idea to another. I just wanted it to be over. I took my grandson and wished from the opening scenes that I had not. This is not a children's movie. It is a nightmare in more ways than one. Don't waste your time or money!
