Plot Summary
In 79 A.D., Pompeii, a bustling port city, stands in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius. Milo (Kit Harington), a former slave, is a gladiator who has caught the eye of Cassia (Emily Browning), a wealthy merchant's daughter. However, their difference in social status is not the only obstacle to their love; Cassia has been promised to Corvus (Kiefer Sutherland), a corrupt Roman senator. When the eruption of Mount Vesuvius rains lava and ash down on the city, Milo races to save her before it's too late.

  • While Anderson excels in the film’s many moments of digital doom-and-gloom, he can’t deliver a single authentic emotion between the two star-crossed leads, leaving us with a sooty aftertaste of having sat through one very loud rendition of Titanic in togas. show more

  • Anderson's repeated hurling of flaming volcanic projectiles directly at the screen — the dominant feature of the latter third of Pompeii — is firmly in the lovably trashy spirit of the '50s drive-in. show more

  • The first sixty minutes of Pompeii are awful, bordering on unwatchable... The final forty-five minutes of the movie however are, by sheer force of will, irrefutably entertaining. At least there’s raining death in the form of fireballs smashing up the place. show more

magnifico! i am so, so glad i saw "pompeii" tonight! this is the finest movie ever made, in my opinion! the story line, the music, the special effects! everyone deserves an academy award, in my opinion. how did they make this movie? how? this is a true story, people! see it!! i want this movie for my own private collection! i have read some of the stupid, idiotic reviews other people have given it! how dare they say the things they say? this movie, mark my word, will go down in history, as one of the most technically perfect, beautiful, well-wrought, absolutely beautiful movies ever, ever made!!
