Pretty good movie. We enjoyed it. As usual Johnny Depp is great. The view into the 60s Puerto Rico underbelly was very interesting.
it was an ok movie not having read the rum diary at first i thought the main character was suppose to be hunter s thompson then i realized it was just a character he created the story really didn't have much of a plot the movie felt like it wasn't going anywhere and when it ended i was like \"ummmm so what was this movie about???\" there were some funny parts in the movie but over all
Worse Movie ever
I love Hunter S. , and Johnny is probably my favorite actor....but this one left me saying..\" WHAT !!!!!\" at the end. It was Eh..the whole time. yes a couple twisted Hunter lines, but really...eh..
Meh - maybe if you love Depp or Hunter S. Thompson or if you love that Depp loves Thompson. Otherwise, pretty mediocre.

A mild lark disguised as a wild bender, The Rum Diary is also a touching tribute to Thompson himself. Full Review

The Rum Diary, Bruce Robinson's amorphous hodgepodge of a film, wants to be many things: period recreation, social commentary, morality play, romance, an insider look at the newspaper game. Full Review

The weakest link here is Heard, who possesses the icy cool of Kim Novak but whose character never quite comes into fuller focus than as a hyper-sexualized object of desire. Full Review

In every move, Depp makes you believe this was a passion project for the actor, one he dedicates to Thompson. Full Review

You also get drinking. Lots and lots of drinking. By the time the movie is half over, you'll feel hungover. Full Review
