Claire (Thelma Todd) is caught with her lover, Gerald (Roland Young), by her husband, Stephen (Cary Grant). Confronted with the illicit couple's plans for a vacation in Venice, Italy, the embarrassed pair quickly concoct a story that the trip was a surprise for Stephen and for Gerald's non-existent wife.
