  • Michael Winterbottom's films aren't always successful, but they're almost always interesting. And, in the case of this odd transplantation from Thomas Hardy's grim Wessex to the glare and blare of contemporary India, spectacular visually, though awfully somber dramatically. show more

  • Though it's a bit of an oddity, it's an affecting curio suitable for both Hardy enthusiasts and Winterbottom fans alike. show more

  • As a melodrama, Trishna builds a hypnotic force. show more

Beautiful, moving tragic. I loved the story telling of this film. Being transported to a foreign country with such a different culture. Even though the poverty was very blatant, the beauty was so real and vivid. The intensity of the desperation that leads to the final tradgedy is heartwrenching. Frieda Pinto is gorgeous and a fine young actress.
