One idea, mixed with lame jokes, and stretched beyond coherence. Vampire Academy doesn't need a review. It needs a stake in the heart. show more

The supernatural fight scenes are cheesy and cheap, but this movie is less about epic brawls and more about a headmistress in fabulous dresses, secret meetings with brooding boys in the library, sexualized fang pokes and making wisenheimer comments during prophetic visions. show more

    John DeFore The Hollywood Reporter

A film as soul-sucking as any of the fang-baring bores who populate it. show more

    Roger Moore McClatchy-Tribune News Service

Tedious as all this vampire exposition is (and there’s a LOT), the jokey tone here is much appreciated, with everyone “a few corpuscles shy of an artery” and the action as predictable as “a porcupine in a hot tub.” show more

    Peter Keough Boston Globe

Despite such attractions as Gabriel Byrne as a vampire with a skin disease and a décor that combines Hogwarts with “Suspiria,” the only lesson learned here is that Hollywood needs fresh blood. show more

    Keith Phipps The Dissolve

Fans of the books might enjoy seeing their world brought to life, but most everyone else will likely leave feeling as if they’ve just completed a seminar on vampire lore, and they’re likely to fail any pop quiz that follows. show more

    Randy Cordova Arizona Republic

The film is based on a popular series of young-adult books (big surprise), but one figures only die-hard fans will enjoy the result. The movie is slow-witted and moves at a glacial pace. show more

    Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle

It’s not a complete disaster, but even the appearance of Gabriel Byrne, as Lissa’s uncle Victor, fails to make much of a dent in the slapdash proceedings. show more

If you're not at the bull's-eye center of the target audience, a movie like this one can suck the life out of you. show more

Childish, boring and poorly acted. What a waste of time.

Loved this movie! The trailers made it seem so cheesy and really made me not want to watch it, but after seeing it, I am really glad I did. I went with my sister and she loved it as well, if only it did better at the box office, I would love to see the sequel.

Amazing movie I loved it I was actually surprised at how good it was, since usually when they turn books into movies its terrible, but this one did a good job and got all the main parts of the book. I loved the books and I loved the movie.

This movie was terrible. The only interesting thing about it was the remake of Belalogsi\'s Dead at the end of the movie.

With a lot of rapid-fire dialogue and twists that I often couldn\'t quite understand, this movie was a little too complex and glib for me. But a number of young ladies around me were having a good laugh in various places, so I give it 3 stars instead of 2.

NOT another Twilight. Strong female lead who knows how to kick some ass. This isn\'t about romance, it\'s about friendship and protecting those you love. There is a lot of heart, humor and action. The canon is based on Romanian vampire folklore. Forget the name and give it a chance!
