UPDATE: Another white guy from the South has done it: Trent Harmon won Season 15, making him our final American Idol. Both Trent and La'Porsha were strong talents, and Trent earned his fan support, but that makes 10 male winners and only five female winners in the history of the series. Is it just coincidence? Were the men just that much better or did the demographic shift toward favoring men over the course of the series? Four of the five women (Kelly, Fantasia, Carrie, Jordin) won their seasons in the first six years, and then we fell into the white guys with guitars trope that was occasionally just white guys from the South or cute white guys from wherever. Point to ponder: If Kelly Clarkson competed on a season in the past five or six years, would she have won?

The very last episode of "American Idol" airs tonight (Thursday, April 7) from 8 to 10 p.m. on Fox. Last night, the fans who still vote for AI voted their hearts out for either La'Porsha Renae or Trent Harmon to be the final winner, completing the circle Kelly Clarkson started back in 2002.

The votes are in. The results are out there, somewhere, in stone. So who is it? Who won?

We're still betting on La'Porsha -- who also has the votes of the first two winners, KC and Ruuuuuuben Studdard -- but this could be a close one. Trent knocked his "Chandelier" performance out of the park, and it pays to end strong. Plus, Dalton Rapattoni was eliminated at third place, and his fans are split on where to send their votes, but a few seem to be going for Trent. If you look at Twitter, you see voting messages for both finalists. Over at TVLine, both Michael Slezak and former Idol singer Melinda Doolittle put their money on La'Porsha, but over at AmericanIdolNet, their poll has Trent winning 70 percent to 30.

Guys -- especially cute young guys, especially cute young guys who play guitar or are just from the South -- tend to win Idol. Only five girls have won the Fox show, despite Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood being the most successful winners to date. The last woman to win was Candice Glover in Season 12. Before her, all of the women to win were in the first six seasons.

So as much as we'd like to go old school and say, definitively, La'Porsha Renae WILL WIN Season 15, we've learned from our days of shouting with complete certainty that Adam Lambert would OF COURSE win Season 8 that it's safer to accept that anything will happen. The only certainty is that Ryan Seacrest ... will ... drag ... the ... results ... out ... for ... as ... long ... as ... possible. After the break!

Who do you think should and will win the title of final Idol winner?
