Bálint Baráth Biography

Bálint Baráth is a composer and pianist, but he has always tried to separate the two from each other. While as a performer he always tries to interpret ideas and musical concepts from various eras, as a composer he wants to express his personal view concerning the universal spirit. In his compositions, he investigates the possible ways of transforming music according to the manifestations of human creative power, either it is a geometric thought, a diversified poliphonous texture, or the beliefs, rhythms and melodies of an ancient culture.

He believes in the interdependence and in the pluralism of different types of art. The sources of his compositions lay both within and without Europe, and their interactions are felt in his works as well. Besides the desire to explore the secrets of collective consciousness, the intention to transorm humans and to elevate the soul constitute the other pillars of his art.

These two points can lead the audience to understand the means and forms of his musical way of expression. He started his DLA program in 2018 at the Franz Liszt Academy. His research is based on the relationship of the chaos theory and the musical composition, including the usability of dynamical systems, fractals, attractors. He writes his latest works for instrument and electronics.

The starting point of the works is either external sounds or spectral components of the sounds of the instruments used in the piece. The motifs and sounds, timbres all derived from the examined tones. He finished his DLA program in 2024. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Liszt Academy, Budapest.
