Porca Véia Biography

Porca Véia, stage name of Élio da Rosa Xavier (March 2, 1952 – June 12, 2020) was a Brazilian singer, composer and accordionist. A rural producer until the age of 16, he began his artistic career at the age of six, under the influence of his family. He took a technical agricultural course, when he gained the nickname that became his stage name.

He won several festivals as an instrumentalist and performed in the best concert halls in Brazil, such as Canecão in Rio de Janeiro and at the Palace in São Paulo. He won nineteen out of twenty accordionist competitions in which he participated, and also won two Gold Record awards. He created and directed the Grupo Musical Cordiona, a fandangueiro dance group.

He received several titles, such as Honorary Citizen, Commander of the Military Brigade, Friend of the Brigade and Musical Highlight. During his career, Porca Véia recorded 21 CDs and 3 DVDs. After a 33-year career, Porca Véia announced that his artistic career would end at the end of 2013. He did so on December 28, 2013 at the Festa da Uva pavilion in a big concert, attended by almost 5,000 people.

Porca Véia died on June 12, 2020 at the age of 68, after suffering a cardiac arrest.
