Opening in theaters on September 11th is the new action thriller 'The Fix', which was directed by Guy Moshe, and stars Liam Neeson ('Taken') and Zachary Levi ('Shazam!').
Moviefone recently had the pleasure of speaking with Liam Neeson and Zachary Levi about their work on 'The Fix', Neeson's first reaction to the screenplay, how Levi prepared for the role, their characters' long friendship, working with director Guy Moshe, and if 'The Fix' is a spy movie or heist film.

Moviefone: To begin with, Liam, can you talk about your first reaction to the screenplay and what were some of the aspects of this character that you were excited to explore on screen?
Liam Neeson: I thought the script was very good. I liked my character. I liked being in charge of a group of soldiers, I hadn't done too much of that before. I got a chance to work with Zach and Guy, who is a wonderful director and writer. and used to be Special Forces soldier himself.
MF: Zachary, can you talk about the long history between Tucker and Larry, and what it was like creating that complicated friendship on screen with Liam?
Zachary Levi: Basically what you learn very quickly in the film is that Tucker and Larry have known each other, and been in each other's lives, for quite some time, probably decades. They've gone through lots of situations together, probably not so great situations together, but had each other's back, and trusted each other. There's a deep trust and and familiarity that's established from the beginning of the film. That was one of the biggest reasons why I jumped at this opportunity when they were approaching me for the role and they said that Liam Neeson may be playing the role of Larry. I was like, yes, I'd love to do that. Then I get to play a character that is very much against my own type, at least up to this point. I haven't got to play a character like this specifically. So, it was great, and I love how their relationship really pays dividends all the way through the film and all the way to the end.
MF: Zachary, can you also talk about the military research and training that you did to prepare you for this role?
ZL: As Liam had mentioned, Guy was a special forces soldier many years ago when he was a younger man. So, having him on set, knowing that he was a part of writing this and making it a very authentic version of what this looks like, was very helpful. We had incredible advisors, military advisors that were a part of the film, real guys doing these real jobs, at least they did in the past but maybe not doing them still. Then as a part of that, we got some real hands-on actual training. You know, like how to move as a squad. In fact, prior to all of us getting together in Mississippi, I went to this range in Texas outside of San Antonio and got to do some significant gun range stuff. It's pretty intense stuff, but we got to do all that. It was awesome.
MF: Liam, can you talk about collaborating on set with director Guy Moshe and what are you looking for from a director on set?
LN: What I'm looking for is a kind of an intimacy. Sharing ideas, especially because Guy was an ex-soldier. Yeah, that's it, I think. That's the word I'm looking for. A kind of an intimacy.
MF: Zachary, would you describe 'The Fix' as a spy movie, a heist film, or both?
ZL: Yes. The answer is both. I call it a military action heist flick. That's what it is. There's adventure, there's twists and turns, and there's spycraft. There's emotional human grounding, whether it's these soldiers, families that you get to meet in many cases, they're personal lives, and how that has been affected through the decisions of all of them as a squad and these situations they find themselves in. So, there's that human core still at it that grounds it, but most of the film is suspense, a heist, and pedal to the metal military action.
MF: Finally, Liam, what was your experience like working with Zachary on this movie?
LN: There was no surprises. I knew Zach was a wonderful actor. He carries a lovely stillness and dignity, which is rare nowadays. It's very admirable, and it was a wonderful experience acting with him.
