It looks slick, pricey and starry – Indiana Jones teams up with James Bond for a gunfight with space demons. But even Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig can't save a movie that's all concept, no content. show more

    Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle

Take a cowboy movie, add space aliens. That's a gimmick that could easily have exhausted itself after 20 minutes, but director Favreau, a team of screenwriters and some well-cast actors keep it alive, and the result is a crowd-pleasing summer movie with more wit than most. show more

Dialogue is terse and predictable, and the sci-fi thriller portion is even less compelling than the Western saga. show more

Cowboys versus aliens is a concept that may make you smile in anticipation, but wipe that smile off your face before buying your ticket. show more

Neither fish nor fowl (nor extraterrestrial), and that's a problem. Craig, handsomely craggy, plays it straight, and like Eastwood's Man With No Name, he doesn't have much to say. show more

The sole treasure of Cowboys & Aliens is that director Jon Favreau ("Iron Man") has fashioned an actual rawhide ride from a graphic novel (that took six writers to wrangle to the screen). show more

The key to its success lies in the determination by everyone involved to play the damn thing straight. Even the slightest goofiness, the tiniest touch of camp, and the whole thing would blow sky high. But it doesn't. show more

Based on a graphic novel, Cowboys & Aliens never quite transcends the flat dimensions of its source material. show more

Like the Inuit and their many words for "snow," Jake has a thousand squinty faces and they all mean "Bugger off." show more

One of the worst movies I\'ve seen in long time. A terrible waste of acting talent and special effects. Was this movie financed by a religious backer? It was full of religious crap.

A truly disappointing movie. After watching the trailer I was eagerly waiting for the DVD release. What a waste! Weak story, and campy acting for all artists. This movie had NO redeeming qualities.

Good movie; A little confusing; bad story setting. Overall an Ok movie though.

Set in the Old West, a lone cowboy with no memory of his past might be the town of Absolution's best hope against an alien invasion. Helped by the mysterious Ella (Wilde), he rallies a posse for an epic showdown. A spaceship arrives in Arizona, 1873, to take over the Earth, starting with the Wild West region. A posse of cowboys and natives are all that stand in their way. One of the worst movies I\'ve seen. Story line is just laughable. Can\'t believe big time movie starts agreed to do a movie like this.

If you want a great \'check your brain at the door\' movie, add this to your pure entertainment list. \'Indiana Jones\' and \'James Bond\' team up in the old west to clobber \'true evil\'. Woohoo! Forget the real world and genres as you know them. Cowboys and Indians are on the same side for a change (nice) to conquer the gold rush-hungry Aliens but only \'the girl\' can save the day (double nice). So it comes as no surprise that critics rate it badly (50%) and \'ordinary people critics\' rate it highly (88%). [These are the spaces that are making critics less relevant]. ~ Suze f you are like me and love hard-core docs and excellent \'films\' -- but want to stop thinking occassionally
