You might bitch that Flight levels off after its shocking, soaring start. But you'd be missing the point of an exceptional entertainment that Zemeckis shades into something quietly devastating – not an addiction drama, but the deeper spectacle of a man facing the truth about himself. show more

The plane crash in Flight must go down as one of the strongest single scenes of 2012: It's extended, detailed, technically and emotionally realistic, and beyond that, it reveals character. show more

The film is not without flaws. It glosses over the story of the dissolution of Whitaker's marriage and does not delve deeply enough into the source of his problems with his son. A romance with recovering junkie Nicole (Kelly Reilly) rarely rings true. show more

One unwelcome surprise is how shopworn the story's components prove to be. Still, they're enhanced if not redeemed by Mr. Washington's stirring portrait of a skillful, prideful pilot hitting bottom. show more

Flight is neither a simple story of heroism, nor one of a fallen hero. Things are more complex than that - and it is its complexities that make the film all the more rewarding an experience. show more

This absorbing drama provides Denzel Washington with one of his meatiest, most complex roles, and he flies with it. show more

Turns out to be a disappointingly standard addiction story in its second half also serves as a reminder that Hollywood tends to be more invested in these types of self-serious movies than most actual audiences. show more

One of the big reasons Flight is so satisfying is that it moves with the no-frills, meat-and-potatoes conventions of a first-rate procedural while being awash in ambiguity. show more

Flight is exciting - terrific, really - because in addition to the sophisticated storytelling techniques by which it keeps us hooked, it doesn't drag audience sympathies around by the nose, telling us what to think or how to judge the reckless, charismatic protagonist played by Denzel Washington. show more

Another really good movie from Denzel & Zemeckis. First half of movie grabs your attention and keeps it. A little soft after that, and a really great last twenty mins ! While not Denzels ***************** rates a solid B. Well worth the price to rent. Denzel still has it !!

My husband is an air traffic controller and a pilot. He said the scenes depicted on the plane were pretty accurate and you could land the plane that way. Great performances by all.

I won\'t give a college theater student analysis or even a movie cricitc analysis. Just that of a frequent movie patron. Despite the director\'s chops, the script is fairly predictable and the story line equally expectyed escept for the opening scenes and the final resolution. However, wathcing Denzel take us through the life of an alcoholic with no remorse is eminently watchable . Denzel is good to great in anything, although Pelican Brief with Julia Roberts will alsway be my foavorite. So be sure to see it, at the theater if possible or rentt the video --in Blue Ray-- but don\'t buy it because you won\'t want to see it more than once.

I have read the reviews and now have watched the movie. NO, this is not an \"artfully crafted glimpse into the the abyss by a man\"...blah blah blah. It was an overdone, overlong bore that even the immensely talented Denzel Washington could not save. Basically it is a 15 million dollar sleeping pill.

Half of this movie is really awesome, and the other half is very slow. Certainly worth it for the awesome half but don't be surprised if even a drunk, coked up Denzel gets boring to watch. Could have used some rewrites as it feels forced. Definitely worth a rental but an unfortunate disappointment.

Wake me when it\'s over, typical Denzel movie.

Denzel delivers again. The movie is about acting and depiction of a man\'s struggles. He does that. Don\'t really expect much of an action packed film.
