This unholy mess replaces the artful ambition of "The American" with torture, blood spray, kinky sex, twisted fun and a bizarro critique of U.S. policy on illegal immigration. show more

The whole thing is monumentally gruesome and just as monumentally cynical, a riot of grisly cliches designed to titillate and amuse. show more

Danny Trejo plays the long-haired, craggy-faced titular Machete with a combination of swift ferocity and baleful kindliness. And the ladies love it. show more

A maniacal, over-the-top, daring, and insanely funny satire of the American cultus from Hollywood to Madison Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue, Machete has all the nutrition a growing film geek could possibly need. show more

So now we have a full-length Machete movie, and it turns out that, as usual, less is more. show more

The ensemble cast -- ranging from an Oscar winner (De Niro) and faded action star (Seagal) to a B-movie vet (Fahey) and tabloid fodder (Lindsay Lohan, not exactly playing against type as a drugged-out, hell-raising sexpot) -- pretty much offers something for everybody. show more

Machete works because at no time does it ever ask the audience to take any of this too seriously, yet the nudges and winks are never so forceful that it feels like it's begging for your laughter. show more

Forget modulation, nuance or storytelling, this is a movie that hits hard from first to last, no questions asked or logic followed. show more

The movie's an unexpected end-of-summer tonic: a trash guilty pleasure with a healthy (if really violent) sense of outrage. It's also Rodriguez's freest movie yet, and possibly his best. show more

Moviegoers will know in the first five minutes whether the new B-movie Machete is their cup of tea - or bucket of blood. show more

Great classic American action movie. Saw it in Buenos Aires and the Porrteño audience loved it too. They clapped and cheered at the end. Lots of action and lots of laughs to tame it down. I enjoyed the movie throughly . There were good Americans and bad Americans in the movie. But the good guys won and tha bad guys lost. It wan not an Anti-American film it was an Anti-Dufus film. Where the Dufus' just happened to be Americans. The theme was based on immigration issues but did not develop or give any insight into the real imigration issues. Note, last week I walked out of a different comedy movie that bored me. Whereas, Machete kept my interest from start to funish. Machete is a Grity, Latino, Arnold ************** type of character.

AWFULLLLLLL....Every 3rd scene ha someone throwing up in vivid color. Every other scene has someone being run through with a machete, shard of glass, or Lindsay Lohan's bare **** (for no apparent reason.) Acting is awful at best; with the exception of Don Johnson who turned in his most superb a performance since Miami Vice. Wait till it is on TV. It also has Machete Kills and Machete Kills Again sequles promised. I especially liked when Machete sliced open one of the bad guys, grabbed a loose bowel and jumped out of the window and swing in the window of the floor below.

Waste of time and money. Probably a good payday for the hi-profile cast. Just plain bad.

This was a movie that was pornographic violence masquerading as a sensitive story about the struggles on the Mexican Texas border. The machete was used to cut off heads, hands and to impale all others. Robert DeNiro was dreadful and Lindsay Lohan was exploited. A writer described it as end of season tonic. The only thing in that tonic bottle was blood and if that fires you up, go see the movie.
