Rango is like nothing you've ever seen. show more

It is, all in all, off its rocker. But it's gorgeous. show more

The result is an odd, occasionally engaging but often cacophonous mishmash. show more

I've made a good case for seeing Rango, and why not; an eye feast is still a feast in this lean multiplex season. Be advised, though, of the film's peculiar deficits. The narrative isn't really dramatic, despite several send-up face-offs. It's more like a succession of picturesque notions that might have flowed from DreamWorks or Pixar while their story departments were out to lunch. show more

Rango is best enjoyed by those over 10 who have an idea of what "existential" means and can appreciate a surreal mashup of "Chinatown," "Gladiator," "High Noon," and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly." show more

The latest collaboration between Verbinski ("Pirates of the Caribbean") and Johnny Depp is sharp-edged, surreal, and often astonishing in its giddy creativity. What it is not, however, is a family film. show more

Most exceptional is the visual style, which makes even the best animated 3D look like a poor cousin. show more

To paraphrase something Quentin Tarantino once said about Sergio Corbucci, Verbinski loves the uglies. They return the favor by looking almost beautiful. show more

An animated western that's effortlessly the most exhilarating flight of computer-drawn fancy since "Ratatouille." show more

Rango is some kind of a miracle: An animated comedy for smart moviegoers, wonderfully made, great to look at, wickedly satirical, and (gasp!) filmed in glorious 2-D. show more

Really great movie, particularly good for the family as a whole as the parents can relate and the kids are enthralled by the color and awe of all the different characters! there is even a Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas reference!

I found this movie to be almost unwatchable. It was boring. The characters are unlikeable. The plot makes no sense.
