A hugely entertaining blend of music, fun and eye-popping thrills, though it doesn't lack for heart. show more

Jami Bernard New York Daily News

    Pure, eye-popping pleasure. show more

    Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times

Basically what we have here is a drama, with comedy occasionally lifting the mood. The result is a surprising seriousness; this isn't the mindless romp with cute animals. show more

    James Berardinelli ReelViews

There are moments of fun and humor, to be sure, but the undercurrent is of a far more serious, "adult" nature. The Lion King is primarily about guilt and redemption. show more

Rick Groen The Globe and Mail (Toronto)

For all the undeniable merits, it somehow feels manufactured, and thus, to a degree, calculated - the product not of a collective imagination taking esthetic chances, but of an imaginative collective putting the rivets into a well-wrought plan that can't go awry. show more

    Slant Magazine

Although far from the worst offender in Disney's canon, The Lion King is nevertheless host to many of the less savory qualities common to the studio's output. show more

    Film Threat

A timeless classic, full of excitement, humor, witty asides and memorable characters. show more

    TV Guide

The film has some of Disney's most spectacular animation yet -- particularly in the wildebeest stampede -- and strong vocal performances, especially by skilled Broadway comedian Nathan Lane. However, it suffers from a curiously undeveloped story line. show more

    Austin Chronicle

It's a thumping good adventure. show more

    Owen Gleiberman Entertainment Weekly

Has the resonance to stand not just as a terrific cartoon but as an emotionally pungent movie. show more

i never been a lion king fan but if i was a silly anthropomorphic lion or any animal at all i'd rather be a goth than to always be too cheerful whether i visit a grave yard or not im not evil or nothing but speaking of kimba i sometimes love anime better than other cartoons i saw even if clean words are sometimes censored

The movie is really funny and has a lot of heartwarming scenes and Musical Numbers. They say it copies from Kimba the White Lion but this movies is more cartooney and is greater in presentation! This is the best Disney musical!

The Lion King is a great movie for all ages. Not as good as most Disney movies but still a creative tale.
