Tasked with transmitting reports to Allied soldiers elsewhere in Europe, spies Capt. Paul MacDougall (Charlton Heston) and Sgt. Joseph Contini (Harry Guardino) go to Italy during World War II. The men send their reports with carrier pigeons, and this efficient system allows them time to woo sisters Antonella (Elsa Martinelli) and Rosalba Massimo (Gabriella Pallotta).
