Harrison Hathaway Biography

Harrison River Hathaway is an American filmmaker, writer, illustrator, animator, media theorist, and actor. His work focuses on big emotional and personal questions—like how identity, ideology, and mental health are shaped by a fast, relentlessly evolving world. Through short films like Bird, Louise & Somebody Else (2021), mydrugswherearemydrugs (2024), and Adolescent Window (2025), Hathaway explores feelings of disconnection, emotional overload, and the struggle to make sense of life.

His stories often deal with real experiences like dissociation, suicidal thoughts, and the blurry space between reality and perception—frequently injected with moments of levity. In addition to his narrative films, Hathaway shares personal documentation and experimental media across three YouTube channels: KILONOVA (@kilonova_th), New World (@newworldtwo), and Harrison River (@hrhyt).

The Kilonova Video Diary series—with filmmaker Antonia Fogg, a frequent collaborator—intimately portrays the emotional side of being creative, coping with burnout, and trying to stay grounded in reality while learning and growing. Committed to storytelling as a form of existential education and cultural critique, Hathaway is deeply involved in every stage of production—writing, storyboarding, filming, directing, and editing—while working closely with a small group of creative collaborators.

At its core, Hathaway’s goal is to use film as a space for reflection, connection, and emotional clarity. He believes storytelling can help people better understand reality, themselves, and others—while pushing to “build a New World.” He currently lives and works in Portland, Oregon (as of 2025).
